Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Second Look Chess ("we", "us", "our") collects when you visit this website or buy from us, how we use it and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose. Questions: secondlookchess@gmail.com.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Second Look Chess is responsible for the personal information described in this policy (the "data controller" under EU and UK law). You can reach us at secondlookchess@gmail.com for any privacy request.

2. What we collect

• Order information: your name, email address, billing country and details, the products you buy and the order total. We need your email to deliver your files.
• Payment information: payments are processed by Shopify and its payment partners. We never see or store your full card number.
• Your chess username (personal reports only): if you buy Your Fingerprint Report or Your Top 3 Leaks, the Chess.com or Lichess username you send us, plus the games we use to make your report: the public games of a Lichess account, which we download, or the Chess.com games file you send us.
• Messages: what you write when you email us or use our forms, for example about a download, your report, a correction or a refund.
• Device and usage information: your IP address, browser, device type and the pages you view, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

We only use your public games, or the games file you send us. We never ask for your chess password, and we don't need it. Please send us only your own username, or one you have the account holder's permission to use.

3. How we use it

• To process your order, deliver your download links and send you order emails and corrected files.
• To make your personal report: we fetch the public games of your Lichess username from the Lichess public data service, or use the Chess.com games file you send us, analyze them with a chess engine on our own computer and email you the PDF.
• To answer your messages and handle refunds under our Refund Policy.
• To keep the store secure and prevent fraud.
• To understand how the store is used and improve it.
• To show our ads to people who may be interested, for example on Facebook and Instagram, if you allow advertising cookies.
• To send you training tips or offers by email, if you are a customer or you sign up. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
• To meet our legal and tax obligations.

4. Legal bases (EU, EEA and UK)

We process your information to perform our contract with you (your order), to meet legal obligations (for example tax records), on the basis of our legitimate interests (store security, fraud prevention, improving the store) and with your consent (advertising cookies and marketing emails). You can withdraw consent at any time.

5. Who we share it with

• Shopify, which hosts our store, processes payments and delivers the files. Shopify's own use of data is described in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy.
• Payment providers that process your payment at checkout.
• Google (Gmail), which we use to send and receive email, and our email and messaging tools.
• Lichess, only to request the public games of the username you sent us. We don't send them your name or email. For Chess.com we use only the file you send us.
• Advertising and analytics partners, such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram), when you allow those cookies.
• Authorities, when the law requires it.

We don't sell your personal information for money.

6. Cookies and your choices

We use cookies that the store needs to work (your cart and checkout), plus optional cookies for analytics and advertising. Where the law requires it, optional cookies are used only after you accept them in the cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time from your browser settings or on our Your Privacy Choices page. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal where it applies.

7. How long we keep it

We keep order records for as long as tax and accounting laws require, usually up to 10 years. We keep emails with you for as long as needed to help you and to send corrected files, then delete them. For personal reports, we delete the downloaded games and the analysis 90 days after we send your report, unless you ask us to keep them for a re-audit; you can ask us to delete them sooner. Marketing data is kept until you unsubscribe.

8. International transfers

Our service providers may process your information outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, these transfers are protected by recognized safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain uses, to withdraw consent and to opt out of targeted advertising or the "sharing" of your information. Residents of California and other US states have these rights under their state laws. To use any of them, email secondlookchess@gmail.com. We answer within the time the law requires and we won't treat you differently for asking. If you live in the EU, EEA or UK, you may also complain to your local data protection authority.

10. Children

Our store is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and we don't make reports on accounts we know belong to a child. If you think a child has given us personal information, write to us and we'll delete it.

11. Security

Our store runs on Shopify's secure platform and checkout. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't send sensitive information by email.

12. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top of this page shows the latest version.
